| The Brookings School District is currently using the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt "Journeys" Language Arts/Reading Series in Grades K-3. Along with this basal series, I supplement our language arts curriculum with materials from Jill Eggleton and other research based sources that focus on the five essential components of reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. |
| During our reading block, we may be found in large group instruction, small teacher-led reading groups, learning centers, independent reading or working one on one with a teacher, parent volunteer, high school tutor or college student. |
